As many of us have known, backlink building process is the crucial task in order to increase your website/blog Page Rank. In your link building effort, an effective anchor text appears to be one of the most important factors that can boost your website ranking on search engine. When you use article marketing, Squidoo, ezine, forum marketing to build backlinks and when you create links between internal webpage, make sure you make full use of the power of anchor text, instead of just provide a url link. 

What is an Anchor Text

Anchor text is the visible hyperlinked text on a webpage. See this example:

“APS is an awesome program that has 9 income streams. After joining APS, you can earn money with your own people search engine which has 5 income streams and APS affiliate opportunity which has 4 income streams.”

In the paragraph above, “own people search engine” and “APS affiliate opportunity” are hyper linked to the hidden URLs of your own people search engine http://my-people-search.ws  (example) and your affiliate landing page www.APS.affiliate.com/xxxxx (example) respectively. The words within the hyperlink, “own people search engine” and “APS affiliate opportunity” are called ANCHOR TEXT.

Quality backlink and Anchor Text

Backlinking by anchor text which contains target keywords or key phrases is considered as “quality” or "SEO" backlink. Also, links from reputable sites to your website is another quality backlink that search engine will place premium for.

Anchor text in Internal and External Link

Anchor text can be used in both internal and external links. Both are important in our link building strategy.
Internal links are those linking separate pages of a website. You can use anchor text on the hyperlink that links to another page. For example, the navigation tabs are all internal links. You have control over this kind of anchor text.

External links are those links that come from other site to your site. You may or may not have controlled over this kind of anchor text.

The Importance of Anchor Text

Anchor text has been applied in search engine algorithms to enhance the relevance of the "target" or the "landing page" URL for the keywords appearing within the anchor text.

In the link building process, we ought to use highly descriptive text for your links (anchor text) to increase your search engine ranking in Search Engine Result Page for the keywords that you are targeting.

Search Engine Algorithms like Anchor Text. Google even has a special operator: allinanchor:keyword', which picks up text only from within the anchor text of indexed pages.

In order to receive more organic traffic from search engine, we must focusing on building more quality links coming back to your site from reputable site and including the keyword rich anchor text in these links.   

How to write an effective Anchor Text

When we have controlled over the proper anchor text that we can use, choose the most descriptive words that describe your site, or relevance to the content of your site. The BEST option is to include your “targeted keyword” in the anchor text.

For example, if your website title is Michael-People-Search, and your targeted keyword is friend finder, instead of create an hyperlink anchor text of Michael People Search, you may write your anchor text in variation of “friend finder” or “old friend finder” or “lost friend finder”.

5. Free Blog and website likes Squidoo, hubpages, wordpress.

Guide on one way link building with proper anchor text:

1. Choose your targeted keyword for your site

2. Write a few anchor texts that contains your keyword in it.

3. Write an article or lens that contains these anchor text which link back to your primary website.

4. Do not link your primary website to this article or lens to avoid reciprocal linking.

5. Spin and submit your article (with anchor text variation) to various article directories, this will build your backlinks and earn you some SEO juice to your website.

6. Do not build your link in large amount instantly, especially if your website is new. It is quite ridiculous if a newly setup website has 2000 backlinks within 30minutes or one day. Google may penalize your website.

Anchor text MUST BE on top of the checklist in your SEO initiatives and link building stategy.
