Topic: Getting My Referral to Switch from GDI to Hostgator On Step 2

Since Tissa introduced the customizable search engine boxes and synchronized the search engine with a blog link for people hosting with Hostgator,  what is the best way to get my referral to convert from GDI to Hostgator on step 2.  Is it true because  I have my Super Affiliate switch flipped, and if my referrals delete their GDI search engine from step 2 and recreate them, they'll be offered Hostgator instead of GDI again?  In order for my referral to take advantage of the Hostgator trainings and sub forums, I prefer that their blog link is hosted in Hostgator instead of elsewhere.  I wondered if anyone has gone through that path or do I have to send my referral my Hostgator affiliate link, have them sign up Hostgator that way, and then ask Trish to make the switch for them.

If you have helped a referral who initially completed step 2 with GDI and switched to Hostgator, then let me know what you did to make the switch as painless as possible?

Re: Getting My Referral to Switch from GDI to Hostgator On Step 2

all you have to do is have him quit GDI (if thats your intentions) and have him sign up to hostgator using your link. and have referral contact gary tissa or trish to adjust his step 2 for hostgator.

then he should be straight.

i dont know about the flipping the switch, it might be too late

Re: Getting My Referral to Switch from GDI to Hostgator On Step 2

Hi Milton,
If you are already flipped your Super affiliate switch then make sure you add your hostgator affiliate ID in APS back office under Add/Edit IDs. And also make sure you uncheck Forced Hosting or Forced Matrix in Tissa's "Secret" GDI Sign-up Sauce Ingredients.
Make sure you are able to put your Hostgator User Name in Add/Edit IDs in APS backoffice. If you are not able to type your Hostgator Affiliate ID then contact Gary. Once you all done these steps then ask you referral to join hostgator and you will get commission as per hostgator which is 1-5 sign up $50 and so on

Jampal, that wasn't my question.  I already know all that.  I'm referring to someone who has joined me a while back but using GDI.  Now, I want them to add Hostgator as well.

Re: Getting My Referral to Switch from GDI to Hostgator On Step 2

Hello. I believe people will actually want to change from GDI to HostGator on free will, unless they are making a lot of money from GDI. I mean, Hostgator is cheaper and has a several more functions. It is somewhat easier to use and do stuff. It has a bigger limit of data storage and bandwidth.

You could encourage your downline to keep their GDI domain, change its nameserver to point to HostGator DNS and host the domain on hostgator, without canceling the GDI account.

Although they would have to pay an extra ~$9, they wouldn't lose all the efforts they went though advertising the current domain and they would take advantage of HostGator features. However, they would have to forfeit the people search engine page and the presell page (they would still be able to use the custom search engine pages, embedding the widgets on blogs, for instance. I hope Tissa make some changes on the system to allow people from GDI who changed nameservers to point to other hosting companies but maintained their GDI accounts to upload the people search engine and the presell pages to their new hosting service.

Re: Getting My Referral to Switch from GDI to Hostgator On Step 2

Hi Milton,

I was thinking of that too.. Just give them enough reason why they should switch hosting from GDI to Hostgator. One is that of the Wordpress blog. Offer them your help/assistance in creating their own wordpress blog, maybe you could provide them your own template or your own wordpress blog for them to follow. Just make sure you know all those stuff. And aside from the great features of the Wordpress blog, you can lure them that they too can earn one-time huge commission from hostgator for every APS referral that they have. Simply put, if they want their own referrals subscribed hosting to hostgator, they must also be a subscriber of hostgator. Being a user first of the product, you're then in a position to market/sell your product to your prospects, providing them first hand the benefits of it. Sell to them the benefits.

Re: Getting My Referral to Switch from GDI to Hostgator On Step 2

Hi Milton,
This is not a bad idea at all. I think you should encourage him to keep his GDI account, and work on helping him with tips and ideas on that. In the meantime, while people have already answered the question that you asked in some ways, I had a slightly different aspect that I wanted to cover - something I had problems with myself, and I think this info will come in handy for your downline member.
Hope the following tip helps anyone who is contemplating doing the same.
When I switched my SE from  GDI to HG, I had quite a few problems, mainly because I didn't have the right info from HG. The problem was with the DNS settings in the APS back office. The typical format that is represented there is: http://gator486(no. may vary).hostgator.com/yourHGuseraccountname
Now, when you get an HG account, this is not the format that is given to you in the welcome email. In fact, you will never get this, unless you ask for it specifically from the HG tech support. So what will happen then is that you will keep getting an error in the APS back office - saying the cpanel username is not valid, etc. I almost tore my hair out in frustration! mad
I had to be online with HG chat quite a few times, before they understood what I was asking for.
So, it's important that your APS referral checks his/her APS back office and find this number under his step 2. After that, he/she needs to contact HG chat with this format and get the complete info. With that info, this setup will be a breeze - otherwise, prepare for a harrowing time! wink

Best wishes,

Somesh.

Actually, nothing has to be forfeited.  My GDI domain is pointing to my HG nameservers for webhosting so I can keep the same domain name for my people search engine and used HG for step 2 to host my blog.   This could be done with Trish's help.

Somesh, my cpanel username was fine as it was with no additional support from HG needed.  Not sure why it wasn't the case for you.

Thanks for your all your responses.  No, my referral doesn't have to drop GDI for any reason.  They can do GDI domain forwarding to HG domain or point to HG nameservers for hosting.

I'm looking at the system mechanics whether if my referral repeats step 2, would they be offered HG since I have the SA switch?  Nobody has provided this answer yet.  If this is the case, then there is not much they have to do except to delete step 2 and redo it.  When I deleted my search engine in step 2, I was asked to fill in information for GDI because my sponsor doesn't have HG or the SA switch.  She is probably not even part of ACME anymore either.

This is similiar to what Tissa had asked people to do to delete some consumer guide pages to fullfil FTC requirements.

Re: Getting My Referral to Switch from GDI to Hostgator On Step 2

Hi Milton

Sorry if we have misunderstood you on your earlier post, we all thought you want your referrals to switch from GDI to HG. Now i got your point, it was because of the call from Tissa to remove consumer guide links and pages, hence the need to delete and redo step 2. This is one thing i know for sure that if you select Force Hosting at your GDI SignUp Sauce Page, it will override your SA Switch Flip of offering HG, meaning your referrals will still be offered GDI even you have your SAS flipped. But if you want to try to offer them HG, you should be at Force Matrix at the GDI SSP and maybe you could ask one referral if he/she ever try to delete and redo step 2, ask if what hosting has been offered to him/her, and in that case you can take action.

Hope this helps now...

Re: Getting My Referral to Switch from GDI to Hostgator On Step 2

Hi Milton,
I didn't mean the cpanel username was a problem. That was fine. But that was the error that came up in my APS back office. I couldn't figure out why.
Then I realized that the format I was putting the cpanel address in was wrong. I needed the format which I shared here (from the APS back office) - http://gator486.hostgator.com/username
Earlier I kept trying just the username, and it didn't work.
I had to get this proper format from a HG chat session. I thought to share this, in case this happened to anyone else. I passed this on to someone else here at the forum who asked me to help out, and they were able to benefit from this as well.
Hope that explains it! smile

Milton,

I promote both Hostgator and GDI and I would recommend you do the same. If you have flipped your Super Affiliate switch then you can promote Hostgator on the basis of their hosting capabilities as well as their ability to host Wordpress blogs. But you can also ask your referrals to join GDI because of the ease in using their site and for the business opportunity.  You can also switch back and forth on your promotion for step 2 by using your GDI "Forced Hosting" switch. So you can shoot for immediate commissions with Hostgator or build a residual income with GDI at any time you choose. There is no reason you have to choose one over the over and stick with it. One of the great features of APS is that you have the flexibility to promote either of the hosting companies and Tissa is also working on making multiple hosting companies available for step 2 for our referrals.

Re: Getting My Referral to Switch from GDI to Hostgator On Step 2

Thanks Gary for your valuable input on using HG to get immediate commissions and GDI for residual income.   I see how GDI Forced Hosting is great in allowing us to switch between HG and GDI to offer new referrals.   The benefit of HG is it allows my referral to create a blog and make use of the customizable search engine boxes or add unique content.   Maybe it would be more clearer if I put down the different case scenarios.

1) new referral
2) past referrals signed up with GDI but want to convert to HG
3) past referrals signed up with HG but want to add GDI
4) referral is offered multiple HG, GDI or lunarpages during sign up (not available yet)

My question is mainly on #2.   I have past referrals who had signed up for GDI but I wanted them to add HG as well.  So, is the only action that is needed from them is to redo step 2 since I have the SAS?  If they delete step 2 and signed up again, would HG be offered to them if my GDI forced hosting is off regardless if they had signed up with GDI previously?

No. At the current time, since GDI is their host for step 2, they would have to request that they be offered HG for step 2. They can easily do that by sending Trish or myself a PM and making the request.

Re: Getting My Referral to Switch from GDI to Hostgator On Step 2

Gary,

I have a question on HG sign ups.  When a new referral signs up for HG on step 2, what would their referral be offered on step 2 if they're not in GDI yet and don't have the Super Affiliate Switch?  Would the second level referrals be offered my GDI username or ACME instead?  Also, if a new referral doesn't sign up for HG, how long do they have to wait before they are offered GDI in the current setup even though forced GDI hosting is disabled?

Thanks,
Milton

They are offered the default hosting company that Tissa has set up. It used to be StartLogic. I'm not sure what it is now. Maybe Tissa can answer that one (I would guess LunarPages). If they don't sign up with Hostgator then they are offered GDI after 3 days.

Just a correction here, in case anyone comes across this issue again... Somesh, the address you have listed will not work either. It is missing the ~ character.

For your Alternate URL to work, it must be in this format: http://gatorXXX.hostgator.com/~username

I am not sure why you didn't get this in your welcome email Somesh, as it is listed in mine, along with my cPanel address.

Thanks, Slaven, for the update. People, please take note of the corrected URL.
Yeah, I don't know why they didn't send it, but I know a lot of people who never got that in their email. Maybe the HG folks have started doing that now.

Re: Getting My Referral to Switch from GDI to Hostgator On Step 2

My welcome email dates back to June 2009, since this is when I registered my first domain with HG.

Strange. hmm

This is exactly what the beginning of that email looks like:

Thank you for your order and welcome to the HostGator Family!

Your Domain:     domain.com
Your Username:   username
Your Password:  password
Your sites IP address:
1.2.3.4

Your name servers:
nsXXXX.hostgator.com
nsXXXX.hostgator.com

----------------------
Until your DNS has been changed and resolves to our nameservers, you can access your cPanel at:
http://gatorXXX.hostgator.com/cpanel

You can view your site before the DNS has been resolved at:

Hey Slaven,
Now I really feel stupid. I went back and checked my email, and this info was there! tongue
Shows what happens when you don't read your emails properly.
Because there is this dotted line separating that portion from the rest of the email, I didn't pay attention to it - thinking it was the usual disclaimer - roll!

Re: Getting My Referral to Switch from GDI to Hostgator On Step 2

Well all I can say is, I feel like a right Nog. I went into my back office and clicked on my brand your search engine in step 2 and it looked like this ( Step 2 (optional):Done! Brand Your Search Engine Cost: $10 ) Step 1, 2, & 3 are ticked, any way as I was saying I went to step 2 and clicked on it then deleted my GDI who is hosting my website and found myself looking at this (Dear Teresa Van kuylenburg, You just deleted hosting for your search engine and this domain name: Teresa-People-Search.ws "Free People Searches" GDI). IMPORTANT: You must repeat Step 2 (Monetize) with your updated domain information to maintain your Display Rate!
So now you can see why I feel like a right nog, can you please help me to get back to my GDI to do my website hosting please. Thank you

What you should do now is to complete step 2 again with your GDI information.

But if you deleted your domain in GDI then you must first create a new one there and then add it to APS step 2.
