Re: Please help me select a charity!

Hi,

Has any one heard of Aga Khan Foundation or Aga Khan Developrment Network. (AKDN)
My heart goes out to them they do Philanthropist work. They have different projects going on. (AKDN) is a group of development agencies with mandates ranging from health and education to architecture, culture, microfinance, rural development, disaster reduction, the promotion of private-sector enterprise and the revitalisation of historic cities. AKDN agencies conduct their programmes without regard to faith, origin or gender.

There is a saying I donot remember the exact words but the meaning is " give a man a fish & he will feed himslef for a day, teach a man how to fish will feed him for the lifetime"

AKDN does something similar they build schools, hospital etc. provide them with necessary skills inorder to help people rather than giving away them the money.

I have also heard that if some one donates a $1 to them other 3 or more well know charity organisation donates the same which means AKDN then gets your $1 + $3 from wellknown charity organisations. But I would still say please confirm with them whether this is correct.

I have emailed them about my notion of this co contribution from other organisation to see whether its true. I will update you with their reply.

Hence if I have enough money I would definately donate them.

their link is http://www.akdn.org/ you can also google to see which other agencies they have.

Thanks

Re: Please help me select a charity!

If you see some referrals on GDI it doesn't mean he/she is on your GDI downline. Maybe they are already members of GDI. You don't need to call GDI support because this is very understandable. As soon as you don't see someone on your GDI list because he's a member of GDI before you and of course he is under someone else. Period.

Re: Please help me select a charity!

Hi Tissa, I have two charities in mind, as they affect me on a personal level. The first is the National Autistic Society. I have a 14 year old daughter who is severly autistic, and the help we get from the national autistic society is fantastic. I think they are very deserving of your kind donation. the other is the Armed forces Benevolent fund. Having served in the Armed forces for 15 years, seeing my friends die in combat, and the devastation it causes to the families left behind, I beleive this charity would also benefit from a donation.

Thanks for your consideration

Jason

Re: Please help me select a charity!

Hi mike, I'm from the Uk, and receive help from the shaw Trust for my disabled daughter who is severly autistic. This is a very worthwhile charity alongside the national Autistic society. I am also severly disabled after being injured in the armed forces. I watched some of my close friends die in combat, and saw the devastation it caused the family members they left behind. So I recommended The Armed Forces Benevolent fund too. i hope Tissa gives these some consideration.

Tissa, at this point could we just get a contest going to name our main charity so we can start referring to it by name even though it won't be technically established until you can jump through the hoops and deal with all the red tape?  When we do start this do you think GDI would allow us to setup a GDI account for the sake of the charity?  How cool would that be to build residual income for the charity!

Using GDI to build residual income for a charity?  I LOVE it, Chris!  If we end up creating a 501(c)(3) organization, I'm sure GDI would allow an account for the organization.  After all, it would be a separate legal entity.

Tissa, I think it would be a great idea to create a sub-forum to continue these discussions.   This would help all affiliates become aware of a greater cause that is taking place in the APS community and their efforts.

Here's a new sub-forum to continue discussions about creating (and naming) our OWN charity:

http://acme-people-search-forum.com/for … anization/

However, use this "old" sub-forum (post below) to continue our discussions about where to donate the $1,000 to an EXISTING charity, i.e. Kiva.org.

why dont you make your own charity and just give it to the homeless

Re: Please help me select a charity!

Tissa I have a suggestion for where you can donate to a wonderful charity in great need.

It's for animals and helping animals does help people.  Helping animals helps us learn how to treat people.  Getting the evil doers of animals put away, helps people, for these evil doers most likely will end up hurting people as well.

Factory farms are perhaps the greatest source of animal suffering on the planet. Please help the Chickens who suffer more than any.

Factory Farmed Chickens for eggs and meat are treated the most cruel.  These poor innocent creatures live in horrific conditions and are tortured every day.  It is unthinkable to have this sort of cruelty going on in our so called civilized world.

Chickens and birds are Highly Intelligent animals.  It has been proven that the avian brain has the intelligence of a 5 year old child and the emotions of a 2 year old child.  Just look up Alex the Gifted Parrot on YOu Tube!  Dr. Irene Pepperberg proved his intelligence!

I also own 2 pet cockatiels (little tiny parrots) that are related to the Cockatoo.  They want love and attention on a daily basis and give uncondtional love.

Brain size means nothing anymore!!!  And if the animal has fur, scales or feathers means nothing of their emotionals as sentiant beings.

Please help end the suffering.
They do not deserve to be treated like this when they help nourish our bodies.   They give their lives to help us.

Also please check out Farm Sanctuary where you can read about how these animals escaped near death and slaughter.

Uncondtional love is given by turkeys, chickens, cows and more rescued factory farmed animals.

Please read their precious stories.  http://farmsanctuary.org/

Please give them a voice.

Thank you. smile

Re: Please help me select a charity!

Hi Tissa, I have 2 causes on Facebook and would love if you can help out.........one is Somesh's SP INDIA........although they can't really get the money from Facebook right away but they are still accepting the cause at FB ~ They are not finished completing the red tape, lol. But I do have a very worthy fully active one if you care to check my facebook page Nadine Stanimirovic.......it is Gospel for Asia.....to buy water filtration systems for only $30.00 / sewing machines that serve an entire village for $85.00 / chickens for proteine but $11.00 will give alot of eggs, a cow goes for $375 and is equal to 20,000 glasses of milk for those bloated bellies. They need calcium and protiene!!! These kids pick metal from junk heaps to feed their siblings, many orphaned and they are destitute. I have done this yearly, usually a goat or the likes but this year I find it hard as my years been costly in meds , lol. Any amount would be appreciated and it only means one less gift under our trees smile
Thanks for your consideration, and for those not yet on Facebook and in my friends group..........come join us. Many of us find Facebook a great way to socialize and make connections ... I fully agree with Angel in this !!!!!
Blessings,
Nadine

If you are still taking ideas, the wounded warrior foundation. There is an easy donate button.

I have personal freinds that rely on foundations like this from injuries in combat, and this fight against terriosm.

There are so many good foundations, anyone you choose will go to good.

Thanks Ryan!  Great cause!

This thread actually dates back to the beginning of the forum.  Tissa offered to donate $1,000 to the charity of my choice (long story smile) and we ended up selecting Kiva.org.  Since then ACME members have contributed an additional $875 in loans.

Originally, we discussed setting up an ACME charitable organization, but there are a lot of legalities so it was just too much of an undertaking in 2009.  However, our idea was to setup an organization to help individuals with disabilities to launch affiliate marketing businesses.  Your suggestion would fit right into this concept.  There are a lot of individuals with mobility issues and what could be more rewarding than running a successful business from the comfort of one's own home?

Tissa, it's great that we decided to choose Kiva for the original $1000 usage.  It's continuing to help people all over the world.

Folks, Kiva is a great organization, and if we pull our resources together we can help a lot more people.  I see APS affiliates contributions to Kiva growing significantly in 2010 so become a member and give a helping hand today because 'Tis is the season. smile  Also visit the charity forums as well when you get a chance.
