Topic: Doing Keyword Research? Don't Overlook This!

Hi folks,

With the Micro Niche subject, we have all been doing a lot of research - especially since this is an important part of the up and coming extremely potential business opportunity that Tissa is presenting us with: PPCall.

I just wanted to point out something:

In our eagerness to do research on keyword-based domains, we might overlook a couple of simple factors. While we do want to look for search volumes - global and local - yet, we want to also look at the trends graphs - simply because these might indicate the search volumes at various times in the year.

For example, if you are purchasing a domain based on a certain festival - say, Christmas, because you want to promote Christmas sales, or Halloween, then you know that only at that relevant time of the year will you get good sales and traffic.

However, you will also get stuck with that domain for a major part of the year, unless you don't mind waiting it out.

So do check the little graph. If you find 2 keywords with the same exact search volume, yet one has a pretty consistently well-performing graph against the other one's many graph with many crests and troughs (highs and lows in a wave), then you know which one to go for. You will also get a bit more detail by looking at the months, and which time of the year it is when you are planning to buy the domain.

Hope that makes sense and helps!

Hi Somesh,

It is a very important point that you brought up. There is also an advantage to waiting it up with your new domain, it ages and that is one another good factor to rank well provided you can afford to spend some money and wait for returns on later date.

Also if you are getting into the seasonal Niches than it is important that you look into the graphs to find out the trend. As you have mentioned correctly the Christmas and Holloween related sites wont attract much interest in the other times of the year.

Exactly, Ramesh. Sometimes we are just in such a hurry that we overlook some of these points.

I know I have done this in the past and ended up being saddled with domains that were not SEO-friendly. It's worth the effort to look before we leap.
