Topic: Alert *** New Google Algorithm Change May Affect Rankings***

Hey Everyone,

I just read an article and I wanted to share some of the important information about a recent change Google made to their website ranking algorithm.

The new change is being referred to as "Mayday".  Here is a quote from the ARTICLE ON WEBPRONEWS, "this is an algorithmic change in Google, looking for higher quality sites to surface for long tail queries. It went through vigorous testing and isn't going to be rolled back."

This may not impact affiliate marketers as much, but seems like it will affect huge ecommerce sites with "item" pages in them that may not have many individual links into them and might be several clicks from the home page.

However, you never can be so sure.

One of the main points made in this article is something that is stressed here on the forum all the time, DON'T LIMIT ALL YOUR MARKETING SUCCESS TO HOW GOOGLE RANKS YOUR SITE!  Diversify your marketing and you will be able to have a more sustainable business model.

Read the whole article and let me know if you think this kind of information is helpful.

Hi Brett,

Yes thanks for this update it is always useful to have this sort of information.

Regarding working towards natural search engine rankings with SEO, it does make me wonder whether I am on the right track. What I am wondering is should I be mastering paid advertising rather than SEO at this early stage of my business? There does seem to be an awful lot of work involved to get our sites ranked.

Don't get me wrong I have nothing against work but would like it to be as efficient as possible.

I would be very interested in anyone elses views here.

All the best,
David

Hey David,

My opinion, based on experience and what I have learned, learn to master it all.

SEO is important, but don't rely on just SEO.

Many sources of paid ads is also good.

I think the main point of the article is to not rely only on Google.

I am going to focus more on Yahoo myself.

Yes, I agree. Paid advertising delivers faster results but SEO can be very lucrative in the long run. Learn both and use many different advertising networks.

I read this article 3-4 days back which was sent by WebProNews. Thanks Brett, you have shared the information at out APS forum members. It is very puzzling what google is doing but we have to keep trying. I was suprised, they mentioned that google changed their algorithm 400 times per year that is more than one changes per day.

Hi,

Thanks for the replies they are in line with what I was thinking, although I have been a bit obsessive with SEO of late. Time to place a little less focus on that and start some ad campaigns I think.

All the best,

David

I am addicted to SEO.  Don't stop working on your SEO campaign.

A good site is still going to get indexed and perform well.

Just ad some paid ads or diversify in to other ad methods like video, articles, and press releases.

Re: Alert *** New Google Algorithm Change May Affect Rankings***

I know what it feels like to have first page rankings but virtually no traffic. I have my other web site traffic on the long tail keywords that count but virtually no visitors. As for the product name, I am ranked at about the 40's. This tells me that Google ranks even us bums who make an effort to do SEO but with Google anything can happen. It takes hard work and frustration. And my site does not rank high according to Google's page rankings. So I am waiting for that.
