Topic: Trouble with Domain names

I got excited about joining ACME people search and before I got to stage 2 I bought domain names at GodaddyI got 2 great names and thought I could use my GVO titanium account to host them as I had paid the year on it. I have a GDI account for the GDI business so I had thought I did not need to pay a second hosting with them plus a further hosting account for other sites and business. My mistake.

Now I have read a few posts so realise the business model.

I have been to Godaddy and changed the name servers to point at GDI but they are not replying to support tickets as I dont know how to get my domain names hosting with them. I feel stupid as they cost me $14.99 for them each and now I am going to have to pay GDI $10 a month anyway. I want to use my domain names not a new one but how do I get them to add it to my domain name section?

Has anyone else done this and can help.

Second Question- I have other websites do you get to add a script to your other pages to add a search box on them??

Please help it is 24hours after sign up and I am itching to get started.

Re: Trouble with Domain names

Take a domain at GDI and upload your search engine at step2. Regarding your domains at godaddy is concern, you can host at GVO pointing nameserver. But GVO hosting service is very poor.

I suggest take a Hostgator hosting account it is free for one month (coupon code: CACTUS). and change your servername to Hostgator.

Re: Trouble with Domain names

Welcome aboard GranpaSam,

Actually, you cannot host your domains at GDI. They do not allow to host domains registered outside GDI. You can host them at Hostgator, or you can ask GDI if they allow you to transfer your domain names with them.

Where are you hosting your other domains? You can add the search box on them as long as they support java script,

Why is GVO such a bad host?

APS only supports hosting from GDI, Hostgator, Lunarpages and Startlogic.  APS do not support GVO hosting.  For details on your hosting problems, you can PM Trish.  She'll get your hosting problems out of your way.  Those beautiful fingers are very crafty at the keyboard.  big_smile big_smile big_smile

Re: Trouble with Domain names

Hello. GVO is not a bad host. In my opinion, it is way better than GDI. However Hosting the people search engine files is not a valid option for the acme program. As for transferring your GDI domain to Godaddy, you don't actually have to do that, since you can purchase domain names dot ws from GDI. The whole domain+hosting+affiliate program stuff costs $10 a month.

And yes, once you complete your ACME step 3, you can create custom search engine pages (the little ribbons with the people search fields, redirecting to the people search engine page) and embedd then on whatever page you want, including your other webasites.

Re: Trouble with Domain names

You must use the host that is in your step 2. You can register a domain with GDI if you have not already.

If you still need help with step 2, send me a PM and will gladly help smile

Re: Trouble with Domain names

wow guys lots of replies, I have already addressed the issue, Now I move onto probs with stage 3 but I will jump forum.

The domain names I bought on Godaddy where the ones I wanted to use, I know I can transfer them onto GDI for a cost into my new APS host account and replace my current one, but I may or may not do that, I may just forward them to my current host domain name.

I like GVO, their marketing tools are awesome and have had no problems with hosting.
