Re: 125 Proof Names!

I've seen those also ... I'm not sure how those could be consider legitimate accounts, unless their real names are listed elsewhere that Tissa can seem them and thus verify legitimacy.  In either case, I don't think they should be listed because, like angel pointed out, it makes Acme look bad in the long run.  But this is just my opinion and would like to hear what Tissa thinks about the bogus names on the $125 proof page.

Re: 125 Proof Names!

Weird. I don't see how it would benefit anyone to sign up with a bogus name and promote their affiliate links, as you have to have a real PayPal account.

Although, if these were all the same person, they could have different PayPal accounts for different addresses, couldn't they? Tissa should look into this, as this could be someone looking for an easy way to get paid the $125 over and over again.

It also definitely does look bad for everyone. Has anyone mentioned this to Tissa?

Re: 125 Proof Names!

It is weird that somebody would create accounts with such names. It does not look good on the proof page. But, on the positive side, the very fact that these names are available on the proof page makes it clear that it is not a made up page. Some one would make sure all the names and locations look real if it is a fake.

There is no NY in India as far as my I know, those entries really do not make any sense.
But, we do need to look into this to make sure nothing is wrong and we are not loosing the prospective affiliates to this program because of these things. Hope Tissa will look in to this as soon as possible.

Really!

We wouldn't want our legitimate business looking unprofessional with those kinds of names now, do we?  Hey, I know Wingwang isn't much of a serious 'business' name, but it's really mine and I'm working hard to earn here!:D

Re: 125 Proof Names!

When a program becomes as popular as Acme People Search has become, unfortunately that also means more people who try to cheat the program.  Just like it means more people who cry scam when they don't succeed.  With success comes a much bigger target for the bad guys.  It's the same reason Microsoft's Windows operating system is targeted by more hackers than any other operating system: It's more popular than all the other operating systems.

The proof board shows the 125 most recent payments that included guaranteed commissions of at least $125 - including any payments to cheats.  Unfortunately, all of the APS accounts below were paid referral fees.  Below are the fake names that were provided when creating the APS accounts, the (real?) names per PayPal, the PayPal transaction IDs and amounts, and the APS usernames.  The APS accounts have all been disabled, but I updated their APS accounts with their PayPal names so at least the fake names no longer appear on the proof board.

APS account name: Ghfgh Fghf

I don't want to tilt my hand by revealing too many details here.  But I will say that these are just some examples of larger schemes to defraud Acme People Search.  I'm aware of the problem, and many changes will be made shortly to eliminate such fraud.  It's all a function of the massive growth and popularity of APS, but I won't let it continue.

Re: 125 Proof Names!

Tissa,

I figured, somewhere in the Admin background, you had a way to verify those were real people, otherwise you wouldn't pay them.  We were just concerned about the aesthetic point of view of the proof board.

Ya know, if all these schemers and scammers would spend the same amount of energy they use in trying to cheat and scam into actually doing good things - this world would SO much better in the long run for everyone!

Re: 125 Proof Names!

Yup, I couldn't agree more, Barbara.

Admittedly the scammers are a tiny fraction of users, but soon I will require more information before payments are made - similar to what GDI requires before they will pay any bonuses:

Re: 125 Proof Names!

Thanks for taking care of it Tissa.

Whoever it was that did this, they could at least have put in the effort to use real-looking names when signing up; they probably figured that nobody would ever see those anyways.

Mighty coincidental that all of these "qualified" in the same time period. mad

Bob no one is doubting Tissa like Mary said. He is just overwhelmed since this business is growing at a fast pace and he can miss some of those little details. I just noticed it when I checked the 125 proof board and thought it was kind of silly

Re: 125 Proof Names!

All those payments I mentioned above (to bogus Acme People Search accounts created by scammers) were sent to free email accounts, like Gmail (see my post above).  There have been additional instances of fraud using other free email services like Hotmail and Yahoo.  This is just one reason for an upcoming change in the APS Referral Program Agreement, so heads-up to all:

For future payments to be sent, the domain name of your email address on file with APS (domain name = everything after the '@' symbol) must be registered through Global Domains International.  All PayPal and AlertPay payments will be sent only to email addresses with domain names registered through GDI.  Why?  Because GDI requires valid credit card information to sign up, which will make it a bit harder for the bad guys to hide behind free email addresses.

If you're promoting the APS business opportunity using your referral links (i.e. the Presell Page), chances are you've already signed up for GDI.  So using GDI's email forwarding feature can be set up in about 30 seconds: Log into your GDI account, click on "Setup Your Email" in the left margin, and scroll down to "Forwarded Prefixes".  Create a new GDI email address that forwards to your current email address.

Be sure to enter your GDI email address into your APS back office (click on the 'Account Profile' link) and also add your GDI email address to your PayPal (or AlertPay) account.  Here's how to add an email address to your PayPal account.

If you're promoting the APS business opportunity but haven't signed up for GDI - well, you really should.  You're missing out on a huge income opportunity.  Use the GDI links in your back office to sign up.  If you're promoting your APS people search engine rather than the business opportunity, then this change won't affect you at all.

Of course, this means that your APS referrals will also have to sign up for GDI in order to be paid referral fees by me.  As always, your GDI sign-up link will be provided to your APS referrals.  So this may actually boost your GDI sign-ups and retention!  This is just one of many changes in the works to enhance the Acme People Search program for the benefit of all.

This change takes effect August 24, 2009, so be sure to update your APS back office with your GDI email address before the next pay day (August 28).  If you have not updated your email address by August 28, you will not be paid (your referral fees will be carried over to the next pay date).

Thanks for helping to maintain and protect the integrity of the Acme People Search program.

Re: 125 Proof Names!

Hate that you had to make this rule, but you have to do something to fight against fraud and such.  But hopefully, this change will cut down the fraud dramatically.

I just created my email at my .ws site, updated my Acme back office, and added the new email to my Paypal account ... while listening to the Webinar!  smile

You didn't need to update your paypal account if you used the forwarding on your GDI account.  Of course, if you didn't use forwarding prefix that's another story. smile

I mean fields for AlertPay Email or Paypal should be different than the main account email
