A while ago, Chris Losenno started a thread about building niche sites.  Here is the thread:

For anyone that hasn't read through the posts, I highly recommend it to you. 

I want to bring a different angle that could literally change your affiliate marketing fortunes.  The great thing about it, is anyone here on the forum can do this. 

First a little background.  I have been following two marketers for a long time, Ryan Moran and Pot Pie Girl.

They have been working together on a project around "Niche Site Flipping".

I just recently received a report from Jen and Ryan titled "Wholesaling Websites - How To Buy Profitable Businesses For Pennies On The Dollar and GET MONEY In Huge Lump Sums Whenever You Want"

To summarize, you follow Chris's plan of building super targeted niche websites/blogs and begin driving traffic and building links so these sites begin ranking and making just a little money (as little as $1 a day). 

Once you have your sites to this point, you can sell them to other marketers on the site, flippa.com for as little as a few hundred bucks to THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS depending on the niche, the demand, and the profitability factor. 

While this is not an exact science, you can see a proven site that sold for $7000 right here:

The site, VegetableGardeners.com, is pretty basic and anyone here can build a site like this.

So here is the challenge to all of you...let's see who can build and sell the most niche sites and make the most money!

Start day, today, June 23.

Last Prize:  All the Money you make from selling your sites.

Hi Brett,

I have been working on this for a while now, and getting ready to put up a couple of my sites for sale.

The neat thing is, in case people aren't aware, you can also do this for domains - called domain flipping.

You do niche targeted research and then register domains, and park them at Sedo.com for a couple of months, and then put them up for sale. I have been seeing domains go for thousands of dollars at Godaddy Auctions, Flippa.com and Sedo.

Interesting business - this!

Just a P.S. - info for those who are interested:

One way to determine the worth of your site that you are planning to sell is take the monthly average revenue that your site generates over a period of time (you can also do it just after a month too), and then multiply it by 10 (sort of revenue generated over 10 months).
This is the website's value, and then you can set this as a benchmark price if you like.
Of course, you can get a much higher price for it.

Another interesting thing I have noticed is that while you're growing your site, you're also making money while you build! You're building something that works for you as you go, then gives you an ultimate payoff! Really fascinating business!

Hi Brett, this is a great challenge as well! I learned so much from Chris's micro niche challenge I could never thank him too much for what that challenge did to inspire me to learn more about niche keyword research and how it pushed me further along in my marketing success efforts.

I'm not going to join this challenge as I am just beginning to build my "niche domain empire" but I am going to be following along closely as the sale of existing domains is knowledge that I do want to learn about.

I've lost count right now but I've bought about 30 niche themed domains since Chris did his challenge so I'm busy as can be getting it all going.

Can't wait to see what happens here with this challenge!

I see PotPieGirl just sold a micro niche site for $620 on Flippa.com.

Here's the auction.

Take a look at the site.  It's a site built around gable attic fans!  This is a perfect example how these micro niche sites can generate monthly revenue or a nice chunk of change from a quick sale.  A site like this doesn't take more than a day to build with WordPress and then it's just a matter of building backlinks and getting some traffic flowing.  The hardest part is always the content creation.  It's tedious and not very glamorous (especially when you're writing about gable attic fans lol), but you can clearly see the payoff from this example.

P.S.  Notice what she did with the links.  This is brilliant.   She changed all the links in her nav bar, content, footer, etc. to colors other then blue.  The only blue links are the Google AdSense links which stick out like a sore thumb.  wink

The beauty of this marketing strategy is that once you figure out what you are doing, you can literally create a site a week, or day, and just have them rolling along.  Some will sell for hundreds or thousands, and others will sell for a few bucks, but either way, by the end of our contest you may be in a position to earn thousands of dollars over and over again. 

Of course, you can outsource all of the grunt work as well.  There are people at Fiverr.com that will build sites or install WP blogs for $5.  I have found that once you connect with someone you like, they will do more work for you (not for $5) but you can build a relationship and get it going.
