Topic: Free Customizable People Search Engine

Here's a simple content management system that you can install that will allow you to customize the the header, footer, search engine headline, background (color/image), and welcome message on your people search engine plus add articles.  Here's what the back office looks like so you can see the features.  Here's my customized people search engine that I'm playing around with.  The idea behind it was to allow members to easily create highly targeted destination URLs for pay-per-click, article marketing and other advertising methods.  Example:  If you wanted to target a long-tail keyword like "Find Someone in Alaska" you could make this keyword the search engine headline and then add a related article below.

Right now it works, but it could use a little polishing.  I'd like a few beta testers to give it a try and post feedback plus suggestions for more features.  It's pretty cool - give it a try!

Here's how to install it (MySQL required - Won't work with GDI):

1) Download the files here.
2) Upload the files to your site
3) Create a MySQL database and add a user
4) Open the includes/config.inc.php file and update the MySQL details (Screenshot)
5) Upload the updated config.inc.php file
6) Open phpMyAdmin and import the file "MySQL_LATEST_DUMP.sql"

That's it!  You'll then be able to log in to yourdomain.com/admin (username/password: admin/admin or admin/pse93710) and you'll be able to customize your people search engine.

Yes, it's set to accept your APS username right now, but we can add the other affiliate IDs later.

It still needs some work and polishing that's why I'd love to get everyone who is comfortable setting up a database to try it out.

Hopefully, it will help members earn more money from the people search engine and boost HostGator sign-ups.

I dont have a phpmyAdmin anywhere?

I did upload this file into the admin folder - but its just a folder and not a PHP?
Can someone tell me where to find the php part of this file?

PLUS - I keep getting errors

Message:    MySQL Query fail: SELECT * FROM config
MySQL Error:    Table 'carl_engine.config' doesn't exist

I know that this database exists as well as another one I tried - ?????

You need to open up the index.php file and and search for 'title'. The above code is between <title></title>. You can remove that and insert your own title.

Thanks Chris.  I'm seeing the same issues as Octar after using the last sql file you just posted.  The articles don't show up and when I conducted a search, it wasn't my APS username even though I've updated it in the site configuration in the admin panel.  Is it required to set it up in the root directory?

Kirsten, the phpMyAdmin is a button in the Cpanel.  In Cpanel under Database, it's 2 icons to the right of MySql icon.  After you click that, you need to select the database on the left hand side, then click Import button at the top, and under File to import, select the Browse and give the sql file.  For character set of file, I left at default utf8, and format of imported file, I just kept SQL and None in the dropbox. 

Are these the settings that you're using, Chris?
