Re: Free $100 AdWords Coupon

Hey Mike,

I've received a coupon from HG as well for $100.  Can we have more than one adwords account?  I think this is allowed if you change payment methods.

This thread talks about it. Apparently, you have to have talked to them about it, and the account have to be linked in some way. I don't know the details, but I'll do a little research and get the official word.

Re: Free $100 AdWords Coupon

I have multiple adwords accounts, in keeping with having multiple businesses.  If you search the adwords site for 'multiple accounts' you'll see a topic that includes this:

If you are an advertiser tracking multiple websites in several AdWords accounts, we recommend that you set up on Analytics account for every AdWords account and then import your cost data to your desired profiles.

I strongly doubt they would be explaining how to manage multiple accounts if it were not acceptable to have multiple accounts.

Re: Free $100 AdWords Coupon

Actually, you're not allowed to have more than one AdWords account - even if you have multiple businesses.

Typically, it's only businesses like ad agencies for example (who are managing multiple clients' accounts) and who have a Client Center account that are allowed to have more than one AdWords account.

I just want to be careful not to give folks the impression that they can open multiple AdWords accounts.  It's not allowed, and you may be banned permanently by Google.

So does StartLogic.  Here's one for $100 (U.S. or Canada residents only, drops to $50 after Feb. 28, 2010):

If you don't already have an AdWords account, go here to set one up:

But before you start any PPC advertising, read this.

Re: Free $100 AdWords Coupon

I dont have an adwords account but if I set up an account Will they try to charge my card after the $100 is done? I also would hate to waste the free $100 with no experience with PPC , I would like to take advantage of it ,any opinions?

Hi John,

No, once your AdWords account runs dry they stop running your ads, unlike a PPC search network like Yahoo.

However, I would strongly advise anyone against running affiliate offers on AdWords unless they are carefully placed in an established, fully-developed website or blog with a lot of unique content.  I think anyone trying to game the system with Google is just asking for trouble.  Google made it perfectly clear over the last couple of month what they think of affiliates.

They will usually try to charge your account right when you set it up - so that they know your card isn't bogus and they won't be in the hole when you fail to shut down a campaign once the initial free amount is exhausted.  You can specify an amount you want them to process for you - like $10 for instance.  There may be a provision in the offer, though, that says no credit card needed.  Best thing to do is to ask Google these questions - they're the only ones with the "right" answers that won't get you in any account trouble.

Shut my mouth and call me luggage.  I better get this sorted out.  The odd thing is that everything is linked together, and I still never have specifically found 'no multiple accounts' in the TOS/Policies.  One more way to keep open the option to ban you without your understanding, I guess. hmm

Vindicated!

OK - here's the official word I got from a rep at Google.  Sorry for the length, but I wanted to give everyone the full text.

Hello Mary,

Thank you for your email. I understand you would like to know if you can
create separate AdWords accounts for each of your businesses.

I am happy to inform you that it is possible to have multiple AdWords
accounts and link them using a My Client Center account. My Client Center
is also a useful tool for search engine marketers and other agencies who
manage third party AdWords accounts. Learn about My Client Center at
https://adwords.google.com/support/bin/ … ;hl=en_US.

If you decide to create multiple accounts, please know that we won't show
more than one of your ads on a given search query. This includes ads that
exist in different accounts. You can find more about this policy at
https://adwords.google.com/support/bin/ … p;hl=en_US

Most advertisers are able to effectively advertise their products or
services with just one account. Each account allows for up to  25
campaigns (with up to 100 ad groups in each). You may want to see tips on
structuring your account at
https://adwords.google.com/support/bin/ … ;hl=en_US.

If you have additional questions, please visit our Help Center at
http://adwords.google.com/support/aw/, where you'll find answers to many
frequently asked questions. We look forward to providing you with the most
effective advertising available.

Sincerely,

Srismitha

Re: Free $100 AdWords Coupon

Hey Mary,

Thanks for the information.  I've created a new account to use with my HG coupon.  Technically speaking, I think every one of the affiliate programs that we're in could be considered as an independent business.  Of course, discretion should always be exercised in creating multiple accounts and ensuring guidelines have been met.

Remember you'll need to gather all your accounts together under MCC (my client center) and do whatever else is required by Google for users of multiple accounts.  I wouldn't/don't recommend setting up multiple accounts just to take advantage of coupons when you are actually only running one business/one type of business.

Besides it doesn't make sense to have multiple accounts for the same type of business.  I have several explicitly different businesses for which finances are kept completely separate -- I even maintain separate PayPal accounts for separate businesses.  And for each one of my businesses, I prepare a separate Schedule C for my annual tax return to the IRS.  Every business is registered with my Secretary of State with a vendors license and has a dba/trade name/fictitious name certificate on file.  If that's not the way you're running your businesses, I would advise against setting up multiple adwords accounts.  The $50 or $100 free ads you get from Google is not worth risking your adwords accounts for.
